STATEMENT - "Cave of Memories" is part of a watercolor and gouache series where I am exploring the boundaries between representation and abstraction in nature. This has allowed me to paint with a freer approach, embracing a sense of play and experimentation. As an instinctively representational artist, I always begin with reference photos—in this case, a cave at Jump Creek Falls—but embracing the abstract forms has given me the freedom to reimagine the landscape. This looser style has brought a refreshing shift in my process, letting me fully enjoy the spontaneity of working with my favorite medium: watercolor.
